The history of Cave Creek is a rich one, dating back to early Indian civilizations. The U.S. Cavalry were the first westerners to begin camping in this high desert oasis. They fought many battles against the Tonto Apache Indian tribe to secure their position. Their successfull battles made it possible for miners, ranchers and cowboys to soon follow and create the unique character of this
early American township. In the early 1940's, China and Ted Loring left Chicago and settled in Cave Creek. The Lorings established Rancho Mañana, which rapidly became one of Arizona's most acclaimed guest ranches. As the sun set, guests spent evenings enjoying steaks cooked over a crackling fire while trail guides told stories of the wild west and the locally feared Tonto Apache tribe. Guests returned again and again for just such an experience in this high Sonoran desert oasis. Cave Creek is still a place to experience an interesting mix of old timers, ranch hands, winter visitors and now us, a new breed of Arizona residents. Today, guests can still experience the rustic desert setting when they visit the Tonto Bar and Grill. The inviting fireplace once the centerpiece of the original lounge, still warms our guests as they dine beneath the dark, hand-carved beams of the historic ranch ceilings. Under our latilla covered patio overlooking the 11th. green at the lush Rancho Mañana golf course, guests can relax and take in the spectacular views of Skull Mesa, Elephant Butte and the southwestern ridge of the Tonto National Forest. Settlers of the Foothills once traveled on horseback across the desert for a fine city meal. Today, it is as simple as dining at Cave Creek's award winning Tonto Bar and Grill. We are proud to maintain the high level of hospitality which began here generations ago. Where the history lives on... Est. 1945 |
